Trip Information
This is a day trip to the Mt. Washington Alpine Resort to experience snowshoeing. The trip leaves from the resort's base area or trailhead and explores the local area and trails of Mt. Washington. Introductory snowshoe lessons are provided by a guide and Vancouver Island University staff. You will be outside for the majority of the trip.
What to wear
- Appropriate warm clothing and footwear for the weather (dress in layers)
What to bring:
- Daypack
- Hiking Boots, or good winter boots (they need to be waterproof!)
- Waterproof jacket or ski jacket and pants
- Warm gloves or mittens
- Toque or warm hat
- Water bottle
- Snacks & Lunch (or money for food)
- Extra socks for the bus ride back
- A sun hat or ball cap
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen

VIU Building 255, Main Lobby (second floor)
Trip Includes:
Transportation to and from Mount Washington, snowshoe equipment and guided hike. If you prefer to use your own gear then please bring it with you.

How to Sign Up
Our activities are available to all current VIU Students. Sign up with us in person, next to the Front Reception Desk in the "Glassroom" on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12pm – 1:30pm in Building 255 - Second Floor.
You will need to have your:
- Student card,
- Proof of medical insurance (BC Care Card or Guard.me Insurance Policy)
- Payment (cash is currently the only method of payment for activities)
Waiver Form
Please read our general waiver form for VIU group activities in the attachment section below. All participants are required to read and sign the waiver before the start of the trip. We will provide a paper copy for you to read through again and sign the morning of the trip.
