The primary goal of our Cultural Connections Activities & Day Trips is to enhance the student experience at VIU. We seek to do this by providing opportunities for students to engage with the local community and experience cultural events, while exploring nature and connecting with peers.

Being connected, active, and engaged in the local environment is healthy. It can help with the cultural adjustment process for students who are new to Canada or new to the community.

Cowichan River Tubing

Trip Information

Cowichan River tubing is one of Vancouver Islands most popular activities during the summer time! Sit back and relax as you float down the crystal clear water! With safety in mind - we will each be rocking (wearing) a life jacket and remain together as one big group! This is an absolute Canadian summer treat! So don't miss out!

Victoria & Butchart Gardens (Optional)

About Victoria and Butchart Gardens

The capital city of British Columbia, Victoria is home to historic buildings, great shopping and some of the best museums in Western Canada. Established in 1843 as a fort for the Hudson’s Bay Trading Company, you can still see many British legacies such as double decker buses, horse drawn carriages, and original buildings. Though rich in history, Victoria is now a busy city with entertainment and a wide range of street festivals & activities.

Salt Spring Island Day Trip

About Salt Spring Island

Salt Spring Island is the largest (70 square miles or 180 square kilometres), most populated (10,500) and, some might say most popular, of the Southern Gulf Islands. Written up in the New York Times as “one of the prettiest artist towns in North America” a visit here will help you find out why they think so…

Rathtrevor Beach Summer Picnic

Rathtrevor Beach Summer Picnic

In Canada there is no better way to kick off the summer months than to sit around a campfire with a good group of old/new friends. Join Cultural Connections as we create fond memories at the beautiful, Rathtrevor Beach. Set amongst Vancouver Island's infamous old-growth forest, and running right up to the ocean, the views in this park cannot be beat! We will provide food (hotdogs, snacks & drinks) and sports/beach equipment for your entertainment.
