Supports for International Students

We offer a variety of student services for supporting students with their personal and academic success. Whether you are in the admission process or approaching graduation, this page offers the hours for connecting with your best-suited resource.

Academic advising is available for undergraduate and ESL international students on the third floor of Building 200.  

Advisors provide advice and support to help you along your academic journey at VIU. The areas they help with include: 

  • programs and course selection 
  • class scheduling and registration
  • educational and career development goals 
  • scholarships and awards 
  • study skills 
  • referrals to other resources and supports 

You can book an appointment with and Advisor through the Experience Hub  by selecting academic advising from the menu.

Immigration Advising by Appointment

In order to talk to an advisor please do the following:

  1.  Login to the Experience Hub to make an appointment either In-Person or Online.
  2. Once you make the immigration appointment you will receive a confirmation email with the details and the link if Online.

We encourage you to review VIU's immigration resources.  If you were not able to find information or have questions, please email immigration@viu.ca with your immigration questions, we shall respond to them at the earliest. Immigration Advising by Drop-In

Wednesdays 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM are available for drop in without an appointment. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday have bookable appointments. If you have an urgent question or situation, see the VIU International Front Reception Desk at Building 255 to check-in.  

 

International Student Admission inquiries regarding ESL, undergraduate, trades, and/or Post-Degree Diploma/Certificate Programs.

International Admissions will provide support services to current international students via email, or in person in Building 200.

We are here to help. Counselling is for both serious and mild mental health and emotional or psychosocial issues. We can support you through distress, relationship troubles, and emotional issues, as well as help you solve or cope with problems or issues that are happening now or ongoing. Big issues or small – we are here to support your personal and academic success. All support is confidential, private, and compassionate.

To meet with a Counsellor please call the Health and Wellness Centre at 250-740-6416. Please have your student number and schedule ready when you call to book your appointment. The Health and Wellness Centre is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am - 4pm. Counsellors are available in-person, via Zoom, and over the telephone.
