International Internship Experience at Tobacco Caye Marine Station in Belize

Internship goals:

  • Assist in the research of invasive lionfish, performing dissections, collecting data entry and add it to Lionfish Patrol app
  • Writing fact files on marine biodiversity: “Adopt a Reef Friend” Program
  • Collect data for Coral Watch research and conservation
  • Advertisement of the 3rd Annual Lionfish Tournament run by TCMS at the end of July 2022 (posters, stickers, social media posts, etc)
  • Supervise Gift Shop, attend to customers, collect payments, as well as ensuring its inventory is up to date and organized
  • Prepare snorkelling kits and its clean up afterwards
  • Support/Assist guides during day and night snorkel with student groups
  • Educational outreach with tourists and students
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of classroom/lab
  • Create social media posts
  • Participate/Assist on the collection, cleaning and sorting of trash accumulated in the “coral graveyard” by Tobacco Caye (an Unesco protected site)
