Join Portal magazine for an online Portfolio Reading moderated by Patrick Wilson (Wet’suwet’en) and featuring three VIU writers who have crafted works that speak to their unique cultures: Kesu Beaton (2S Tla'amin, Lilwat, and Namgis), Danielle Minnis (Bahamian), and Gabriel Villasmil (Venezuelan). Each writer will perform a seven-minute excerpt of a larger work followed by facilitated discussion on the notion of sharing and correcting stereotypes and inequities to do with culture through prose, poetry, and script.

Apart from the direct health impacts of contracting COVID-19, the pandemic has affected people’s health in many unforeseen ways. This panel discussion will consider the unequal health impacts of COVID-19 both domestically and globally. Follow four indigenous environmentalist leaders from across the Americas as they engage in critical actions to preserve their lands from environmental devastation due to resource extraction. Addressing the themes of indigenous sovereignty, climate change and women’s leadership, this award-winning documentary highlights the ongoing collective climate awakening and the imperative of urgent change.

Thanks to this year's special virtual format, we're excited to invite prospective international students to attend WorldVIU Days for the first time ever. This event will wrap up the week's activities and is just for YOU! Your hosts from VIU's International Marketing and Recruitment team will offer a series of live webinars to learn about VIU's programs and services.

This is usually the main feature of the WorldVIU Days Festival, the culminating celebration in the main cafeteria on the final day of WorldVIU Days. This year the fashion show is taking place online and will feature a special compilation of videos submitted by VIU students and staff sporting traditional or contemporary styles from their culture.
