Portfolio Spotlight: Writing/Righting Culture

Join Portal magazine for an online Portfolio Reading moderated by Patrick Wilson (Wet’suwet’en) and featuring three VIU writers who have crafted works that speak to their unique cultures: Kesu Beaton (2S Tla'amin, Lilwat, and Namgis), Danielle Minnis (Bahamian), and Gabriel Villasmil (Venezuelan). Each writer will perform a seven-minute excerpt of a larger work followed by facilitated discussion on the notion of sharing and correcting stereotypes and inequities to do with culture through prose, poetry, and script.

Inequalities in COVID-19 Impacts: At Home and Abroad

Apart from the direct health impacts of contracting COVID-19, the pandemic has affected people’s health in many unforeseen ways. This panel discussion will consider the unequal health impacts of COVID-19 both domestically and globally. Join us to hear reflections from health practitioners from Canada and Mexico as they discuss impacts on the populations with which they work.

VIU Online Global Fashion Show

This is usually the main feature of the WorldVIU Days Festival, the culminating celebration in the main cafeteria on the final day of WorldVIU Days. This year the fashion show is taking place online and will feature a special compilation of videos submitted by VIU students and staff sporting traditional or contemporary styles from their culture.
