Celebrate the life and music of Jamaican reggae legend Bob Marley and VIU’s global student community with a high-energy and dynamic live performance by some of BC’s top reggae talent. Artists RebeLstoke, The Spiritual Warriors, Caleb Hart and Jônelle will be performing a combination of Bob Marley songs and originals. Entrance is free.

All Nations Reggae Symposium: Panel Discussion
A diverse panel of reggae artists will discuss their personal connection to reggae, the genre’s spread and appeal worldwide, and its central themes of Black consciousness and identity, social issues, harmony with nature, and anti-colonial resistance. The discussion will be moderated by Simon Schachner, VIU Intercultural Program Coordinator and host of Rebel Music International on CHLY 101.7 FM.

Richard Brown, veteran reggae drummer and producer, will speak about the role technology has played in the development of reggae music and its subgenres. On Vancouver Island, snow is often viewed as something that happens in the mountains and rarely affects our day-to-day lives. This presentation by Dr. Bill Floyd, Research Hydrologist with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resource Operations, will provide an overview of the current snow measurement network and technology used in BC, the importance of snow to people and the economy, and how we can use this data to adapt to climate change.
