Together with prisoners’ rights advocates, these women help viewers answer a deceptively simple question: What would you have needed to avoid incarceration?

In response to a wave of discriminatory anti-2SLGBTQ+ laws in Southern US states and the divisive 2016 election, the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus embarked on a tour of the American Deep South bringing a message of music, love, and acceptance to communities and individuals confronting intolerance.

The story of Sadika, her family, and their move to Vancouver from Syria’s war-torn Raqqa. A group
of Canadians, once refugees themselves, unite to sponsor a Syrian refugee family in this moving short film. Followed by a facilitated discussion.

When the experience of being a refugee is utterly foreign to us, how can a comic artist bring the lived turmoil of war and loss to us in a way that invites empathy? Graphic narratives of displacement bring us face to face with the suffering of others, but also expose the limits of our compassion and challenge us to move from seeing to acting.

of the last intact farms in BC’s first planned agricultural community, filmmakers Paul Manly and Laurie McMillan explore its rich history and the importance of maintaining urban agriculture in today’s food landscape.

Learn the story of a Mexican musician’s journey from being a student of classical guitar in Guadalajara to forming his own reggae band and later relocating
to Vancouver Island, joining the reggae community here. The session will be conducted mostly in Spanish. Native speakers and Spanish language learners alike are encouraged to attend.
