Bringing a bit of Canadian Culture to India
As part of the Post-Baccalaureate Education program at VIU, I had the opportunity to complete one of my teaching practicums abroad. I chose to do a practicum in India, without thinking too much about what would be waiting for me on the other side. However, I quickly learnt just how different the same profession can be in other countries, as well as the importance of adaptability and flexibility in the teaching profession.
How to Fund your Study Abroad Experience
Studying abroad is an experience of a lifetime. Having the opportunity to study in a foreign country, taking in a new culture, embracing the unknown and maybe even learning a new language is a priceless adventure that unfortunately comes at a price. With that being said, regardless of cost, your journey to global education may be closer than you think.
Learning & Growth in a Community Development Practicum Abroad
I had the opportunity to travel abroad during my VIU Nursing Degree and had an amazing experience working as a practicum student with Apoyo A Gente Emprendedora, a non-governmental organization in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I experienced huge learning every single day, as we navigated our group environment, new surroundings and cultural differences. It was not always easy and I encountered challenges along the way, but the learning will stay with me forever. When I think back, there are a few main themes in what I learned, about my profession and about myself.
All Dreams Are Possible
All Dreams Are Possible
My name is Avryl Brophy and I grew up on Vancouver Island (Gabriola) and consider myself to be an Island girl. I have always loved the outdoors and being surrounded by nature.
I am passionate about community, public outreach and travel, however until recently, travelling abroad has always been more of a dream of mine than a reality, as a student and mother of two teenage boys ... I didn’t think I would have the chance.
