Wine Business Field School to France 2020

Program Overview

Field School Dates: May 1 - 18, 2020

This 9 credit program takes you to France to increase your knowledge, skills and abilities in the subject of wine business and marketing by exploring the French wine industry. We will use a combination of academic study and experiential learning through visits to wineries, cooperatives, historic sites and villages to understand the cultural, media, legal and marketing mix influences on the Wine Supply Chain from grower to consumer. We will begin our exploration in Champagne, followed by stop overs in Dijon and the Burgundy region, before moving south to Beaujolais and then onto the Northern Rhone wine region, and lastly spending a few days in Paris before we depart.

Application Procedure

Complete the Application Package and submit either by email or in person to Carleigh Randall or Peter Briscoe.

Application Deadline: Monday, November 4, 2019

  • Minimum GPA of 2.33 or higher; GPA lower than 2.33 may be considered in exceptional circumstances
  • Two (2) faculty references
  • Complete application package

Field School Fees and Costs: $3,190

Field school fees include:

  • Shared accommodation
  • Breakfasts
  • Welcome and Farewell Dinner
  • Most program related travel
  • Program activity costs and entrance fees

Expenses not included in field school fees:

  • Tuition for MARK 397, 398 & 399
  • Return airfare to and from the field school location
  • Guard.Me Travel medical insurance
  • Some ground travel
  • Miscellaneous entry fees
  • Most meals other than breakfast
  • Personal expenses
  • Passport and visa costs
  • Vaccinations if required

All payments must be made via the student record. Credit cards are not accepted.

Passports

All participants must have a valid passport good for six months after your return. Applications for Canadian passports are available at Canada Post offices. Students must be able to legally travel outside of Canada and through/to the USA.

Visas

This field school travels to countries that are part of the Schengen Region in Europe.

  • Canadian passport holders do not require a visa for short-term travel to the Schengen Region.
  • International students at VIU participating in this field school may require a visa to travel in the Schengen Region depending on their nationality. Please visit Schengen Visa Info for more information.
  • Students will be responsible for applying for and securing their own visas (where appropriate) and ensuring that they have enough entries on their travel documents for each country the program is travelling to.
  • International students going abroad must make sure their TRV and Study Permits are up-to-date and won't expire while they are abroad.
