Canada Explained

Do you have questions about Canada and Canadians?  This elective will give you some information that can help you understand. We will look at what makes Canada different and try to answer some of your questions.

Role Play and Everyday Living (RP)

You will learn common phrases and expressions used in everyday life. Practice them through games, drama activities and by acting out particular situations in pairs and groups.

Board and Card Games (BC1)

Become a master at classic games that many Canadians have played all their lives. Learn how to play board games such as Monopoly, Clue, Scrabble and Yahtzee as well as card games like Old Maid, Crazy Eights, Gin-Rummy and Go Fish. You will improve speaking and listening skills as you play these popular games with your classmates and you will have confidence to play with Canadians outside of school… and win!

STORYTIME!

Enter the fascinating world of fiction!  Read and share popular stories from many cultures. Learn more about your own life through reading poetry, short stories and novels (graded readers) from around the world. Become a story-teller.

Grammar Games (GG)

Is learning fun?  Yes!  Here is your chance to improve your grammar through interesting games and activities. You will practice basic verb tenses, sentence structures, and parts of speech. At the same time, you will have so much fun that you might even forget you are improving your grammar.

Food and Nutrition:  Making Nutritious Meals and Snacks (FN)

Learn how to keep yourself healthy by learning about food and hot to prepare healthy meals and snacks. Learn new vocabulary and how to talk about food when shopping or going to a restaurant.

A Festival of Film Making (FF1)

Do you love movies?  This elective will give you the skills to write, direct, shoot and edit your own short films in English! You will not need any previous movie making experience, but you should have an open attitude to acting and directing and editing your own movie projects. This elective will appeal to anyone who loves using technology and software to achieve amazing results.

Singing:  Find Your Voice (SV1)

Join the ELC Choir and sing with a group. Make friends, work in a team and gain confidence. Improve your pronunciation and develop your voice.

Pronunciation and Spelling – Basic Skills in English Phonetics (EP)

Learn how English letters sound in different words. Improve your pronunciation, spelling and understanding of new vocabulary.

Everyday Conversations

Do you want to feel more confident when speaking with Canadian and International friends?  This elective will give you practice with the tools you need to manage a conversation effectively and be better understood.
