Take local transit and learn how to navigate the city. Established as a city in 1886 it is now one of the largest cities in Canada, Vancouver is also one of the top five cities for livability and quality of life. The city is well known for its urban center which is surrounded by nature which has contributed to making it one of the largest film production centers in North America. There is a lot to do while you are in the big city, explore the large downtown core and the many shops, restaurants, parks & beaches Vancouver has to offer. If you choose you can join us at the Vancouver Aquarium, rated one of the top 5 aquariums worldwide. Located in Stanley Park, the Vancouver Aquarium is one of the largest tourist attractions in Vancouver. The aquarium is a center for marine research, marine animal rehabilitation and conservation. The aquarium features 166 aquatic displays and over 300 species of fish, almost 30,000 invertebrates and 56 species of amphibians and reptiles. They also have a variety of 60 mammals and birds. What to wear: Appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather and for walking Appropriate clothing for the weather What to bring: Umbrella or rain coat (in case it rains) Water bottle  Money if you wish to shop or buy food/tokens for the arcade Snacks & Lunch (or money for food) A backpack to carry all your items Meeting Location:  Departure Bay Ferry Terminal at 8:00 am Trip Includes: Transportation to and from Vancouver (including the ferry and transit bus pass), walking tour and free time downtown. Before you sign-up, please check out our policies & procedures for more information about how to prepare for a trip, as well as our cancellation policy. How to Sign Up Our activities are available to all current VIU Students. Sign up with us in person in Building 255. You will need to have your: Student card, Proof of medical insurance (BC Care Card or Allianz Global Assistance Insurance Policy) Payment (cash is currently the only method of payment for activities) Hours & Locations for Signing Up with us: Faculty of International Education Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm in Building 255, 2nd Floor Reception. Lunchtime Activity Sign Up Booth Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12pm – 1pm in Building 255 - 1st Floor Learning Commons. All participants are required to read and sign the waiver before the start of the trip. We will provide a paper copy for you to read through again and sign the morning of the trip.
