Established in 1843 as a fort for the Hudson’s Bay Trading Company, classic British imagery is present through double decker busses, horse drawn carriages & formal gardens. The City, now a cosmopolitan center is lively with entertainment and a wide range of street festivals & activities.   Join us as we visit the Royal British Columbia Museum.  The Royal BC Museum includes three permanent galleries: natural history, modern history, and local First Nations’ history.  Their current exhibit features Mammoths! Giants of the Ice Age. The museum’s collections comprise approximately 7 million objects, including natural history specimens, artifacts, and archival records. The natural history collections have 750,000 records of specimens almost exclusively from BC and neighbouring states, provinces, or territories.       What to wear: Appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather and for walking Appropriate clothing for the weather   What to bring: Umbrella or rain coat (in case it rains) Water bottle  Money if you wish to shop or buy food/tokens for the arcade Snacks & Lunch (or money for food) A backpack to carry all your items   Meeting Location:  VIU Opgaard Bus Loop at 9:00 am   Trip Includes: Transportation to and from Butchart Gardens and Downtown Victoria, free time to explore and shop and you will also have the option of a short tour through downtown Victoria   Policies, Health & Safety We have an ongoing commitment to ensure the safety and quality of our trips, with trained and responsible student leaders, staff and community partners. Before you sign-up, please check out our policies & procedures for more information about how to prepare for a trip, as well as our cancellation policy.   How to Sign Up Our activities are available to all current VIU Students. You will need to have your: Student card, Proof of medical insurance (BC Care Card or Allianz Global Assistance Insurance Policy) Payment (cash is currently the only method of payment for activities)   Hours & Locations for Signing Up with us: Faculty of International Education Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm in Building 255, 2nd Floor Reception. Lunchtime Activity Sign Up Booth Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12pm – 1pm in Building 255 - 1st Floor Learning Commons.   Waiver Form Please read our general waiver form for VIU group activities in the attchement section below.
