We have selected ten of our favourite trails and will be guiding you on the hikes so you can discover some of the beautiful parks that Nanaimo has to offer. Morrell Nature Sanctuary With conservation in mind, William Morrell, a local contractor, donated this land in 1973 for the public's enjoyment. Last logged in the 1920s, Morrell Nature Sanctuary is a privately owned nature reserve. It is leased and managed by the Morrell Sanctuary Society for Environmental Education, a non-profit organization managed by volunteers who maintain the park and organize many programs for school children and the public. Morrell Nature Sanctuary is close to VIU, and with many looping trails to explore, it is an excellent hike to see while you are in Nanaimo! What to wear: Proper clothing for the weather and for walking Running shoes or hiking boots (good shoes for walking) No sandals What to bring: Snacks & lunch Water bottle  Umbrella or rain coat (in case it rains) A backpack to carry all your items Meeting Location:  VIU Building 255 Main Lobby at 1:30 pm Trip Includes: Your $2 fee includes transportation to and from the hike and a guided hike on one of Nanaimo's trails. Policies, Health & Safety: We have an ongoing commitment to ensure the safety and quality of our trips, with trained and responsible student leaders, staff and community partners.
